Charter Oak State College is developing a pool of applicants for potential part-time teaching positions for the credit course offerings in Social Work.

Anticipated Start Date:Spring 2025 SemesterExample of Job Duties:Under the direction of the Social Work Program Director the Social Work Adjunct Faculty member is responsible for teaching the content of the classes and facilitating learning through effective performance in these essential duties:
  • Teaches classes in the Social Work Department. Connects at-risk students with appropriate supportive services at COSC to address barriers to academic achievement, such as the Student Accessibility Services Office, campus tutoring, and the Counseling Center.
  • Submits student progress reports, midterm grades, attendance reports, and final grades on time.
  • Collects and reports data required for the Social Work Department Assessment and Strategic Plan.
  • Attends required/mandatory college, and departmental meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:Master's in Social Work (MSW) or related field from a regionally accredited institution and CSWE Accredited Program.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

  • Minimum three (3) years of industry and practical experience in a professional discipline.
  • Demonstrated training or experience in teaching in an online asynchronous environment.
  • Demonstrated competency in computer applications.
  • Experience using learning platforms, such as Blackboard.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.


Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Must have reliable technology and access to high-speed internet.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree (DSW or PhD in Social Work) from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Extensive knowledge working in a learning management system.
  • At least two (2) years of higher education teaching experience or one (1) year of higher education online teaching experience.
Starting Salary:
Faculty are paid on a per student basis for teaching.
