Job Summary: Under the supervision of a full-time social work faculty member, the program coordinator works in collaboration with the social work academic department, faculty and administrative assistant to manage social work student needs as well as plan and carry out social work program orientations and events. The program coordinator will work with program faculty and academic advising to guide students effectively through the specified sequence of education coursework required for the Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) Certificate and other related social work program certificates and degrees. The workload for this position varies throughout the semester depending on program and student needs. Work assigned will be carried out at various SLCC campus locations and will require an on-campus presence.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Collaborate and coordinate with social work program faculty, the program administrative assistant and academic advisors to ensure that prospective students, current social work students, as well as students close to graduation are aware of the BHT Certificate, SUDC Certificate, & Social Work Associate of Science programs and their requirements.

Assist academic advisors in making sure students interested in any of the social work programs are instructed on program requirements. Make recommendations to guide students through successful and timely completion of these requirements. This may include scheduling one-on-one meetings with students as well as creating advising outlines for interested students and checking in with them at the beginning, middle and end of each semester.

Communicate frequently (through in-person meetings and email communications) with the full-time social work faculty, social work field coordinator, and program administrative assistant.

Collaborate and coordinate with social work faculty members (including, at times, social work adjuncts), on all significant issues related to certificate or program completion as it relates to workforce or community needs.

With help from the social work field coordinator, plan, organize and host a wide variety of social work events such as Orientations, Transfer Symposiums, and Completion Celebrations for social work students.

Collect and maintain social work certificate and program data, generate reports based on data collection, and keep an organized social work student file/record system. This will include producing reports related to student program interests and certificate/program completion rates.

Assist the program administrative assistant in reviewing student eligibility for program scholarships as well as tracking scholarship awards.

Maintain a student lending library of textbooks for students to borrow, including purchasing textbooks in coordination with the program administrative assistant and distributing/collecting books to/from social work students.

Communicate with faculty and students in allied/related disciplines regarding potential fit of BHT or SUDC licensure with their potential coursework.

Provide support for social work students, make referrals to College resources, etc.

Respond to email and phone messages in a timely manner (typically within one business day).

Keep a detailed log of daily work hours and activities.

Occasionally assists the social work field coordinator in meeting with and interviewing internship ready students for placement and outline the necessary pace for their success.

Occasionally receive and answer phone calls/texts or respond to emails outside of business hours to meet the needs of students, alumni and community members.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate of Science Degree in Social Work or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Social Work or closely related field.Ability to complete the SSW and SUDC coursework within 5 months of hire date.Ability to obtain SSW and SUDC licensure through DOPL within 18 months of hire date.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The Social Work Program Associate position is integral to the success of the newly created Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) certificate and requires a collaborative and supportive relationship with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Candidate must be organized, able to communicate clearly, and be willing to contribute to the vision and growth of the Social Work program to meet behavioral healthcare needs in creative and innovative ways that support the holistic well-being and growth of Salt Lake Community Colleges Social Work program. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Ability to efficiently use computers and software, such as Canvas and Microsoft 365 (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.) Ability to learn, comprehend and then disseminate information about the social work certificates/program, the College system and resources, etc.
